Characteristics of Competition:

Competition is considered to exist in a truly selfish as well as an egalitarian group or society. The concept of competition practiced by the individual with the intent of being the only one who is the best, richest, happiest etc. is or will lead to what may be called a ‘Dog eat Dog’ society, where everyone else has to be inferior.  At the opposite end of the competition scale, the individual who considers competition to be in competition with others (including nature) to concentrate on the well being of self in conjunction with the well being of the group.

Thus, it can be seen that the former leads to what largely exists today and is the decline of humanity heading towards extinction (to be extreme but note the word heading).  At the other extreme end of competition (literally non existent in any group today) the concept of egalitarian competition is not desirable for the sake of attaining the “American Dream.”
